Abstract: This article assesses the quality of surface water resources in Xinjing through in terms of the current quality, trends of the changes. The study on water quality at 65 major river sections of 40 main rivers in Xinjiang shows that, 91.7% of the monitored river section totaling 6079. 5 km in length is up to the Class-3 level of surface water quality standard and thus can meet quality requirements for industrial, agricultural, fishery, domestic water uses, etc., while 8.3% of the monitored river section is polluted. Due to pollution by the area sources, water quality of some of the rivers indicates the degradation tendency. Analyses of the 39 river sections of 28 major rivers and of 2 reservoirs using Kenduer Non-parameter Test Method. show that, in the period from 1993 to 2000, water quality of 57% of the rivers was degrading, and salt pollution of Tarim River was increasing.
