Abstract: This paper analyzes the temporal and spatial change of temperature and precipitation in Xinjiang by using the relatively complete meteorological data after rejecting the possible impacts of the meteorological stations moving and the hot-island effect of urbanization to climate change. The results show that the trend of climate change in Xinjiang is basically the same with that in China and even in the world. However, some obvious regional characteristics exist, for example, the warming process slows down, and the precipitation increases continuously. Correspondingly, the unusual climate events, such as snowstorm, rainstorm, low temperature, and draught, occur frequently, whereas the occurrence of cold wave reduces obviously. Thus, the temperature increase is higher in winter than that in summer, the change amplitude and the temporal and spatial distribution of sunshine and heat resources have changed. Climate in Xinjiang changes towards wetness since recent 50 years, especially since recent 10 odd years, which is advantageous to the ecology and environment, makes the structure of agriculture and animal husbandry change, and promote the economic development in Xinjiang. Climate change is jointly influenced by natural factors and human activities. The adaptability to climate change must be based on the change of human's production and living ways of wantonly destroying ecology and environment, the principle of sustainable development must be followed, and the relationship between the economic and social development and the ecological and environmental conservation must be balanced.
