Abstract: Urban agglomeration and diffusion include many aspects, such as politics, economy, culture, science, technology and information, the essence of which is economic agglomeration and diffusion. The distance to the core city affects intensity of agglomeration and diffusion. The farther the distance between core city and around cities, the less intimate the intensity is. This paper investigates and gathers plenty of materials, uses quantitative and qualitative analysis methods togather to research intensity and range of special agglomeration and diffusion in Urumqi. The target system includes four sub-systems:flow of population, substance, information and technology, and eight indexes:times of passenger road-transport, quantity of passenger road-transport in regions, quantity of passenger railway-transport, density of freight railway-transport, sales volume and sales frequency of small commodities in Xinjiang Shangmao market-city, publishing quantity of Xinjiang Daily, coordinated items of economy and technology between Urumqi and other cities and counties. After having synthetic evaluation, following conclusions can be gotten in the paper:In range of the whole Xinjiang, the intensity of agglomeration and diffusion can be divided obviously into five grades. Miquan, Changji, Karamayi, Turpan, Hutubi, Shihezi and Fukang are the strongest areas of agglomeration and diffusion with Urumqi. These regions, where there is a stronger relationship with Urumqi, are Korla, Yining, Hami, Bole, Wusu, Kuitun, Wujiaqu and Aksu. The regions located in the middle range of agglomeration and diffusion of Urumqi are Shanshan, Kuqa, Shawan. Most of the counties are located in the weak range of agglomeration and diffusion of Urumqi. The counties in border land are located in the weakest range of agglomeration and diffusion of Urumqi.
Key words: Urumqi, spatial analysis, agglomeration and diffusion
