Abstract: Located in the southwest part of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, China, Kashgar is a famous tourism destination in Xinjiang for its abundant types of the tourism resources, especially for its rich folk cultural resources. The development of the tourism resources should be based on the folk culture of Uygur and Tajik minority nationalities, and its theme should represent the cultural relics and the historical sites along the Silk Road as well as the natural scenes in the Pamirs and the plain deserts. It is suggested to develop the historica-l cultural city-Kashgar as the central tourism district and some main tourism areas, such as Kashgar folk custom park, Taxkorgan stone-city scenic spot, Muztag glacier park, Shache scenic spot, Karsu desert scenic spot, Tang-king ancient city, Xiker-Qingshixia scenic spot, and Taxgor-Sishiyanquan scenic spot. It is also suggested to plan, design and invest the tourism network construction by taking Kashgar as the center, the Muztag glacier park as the precursor, the Taxkorgan and Shache county tows as the periphery supports, and the State Highway No. 314 and No.315 and Provincial Highway No. 215 as the tourism lines. The tourism environment, tourism resources, overall development strategy and macro-distribution of the tourism, tourism lines and tactics and measures for the long-term development of the tourism are discussed in the paper.
