Abstract: Ulungur River is a continental river, and flows through Qinghe, Fuyun and Fuhai counties, Altay Prefecture. The water resources in the watershed is not only the lifeblood of agriculture in these three counties, but also an important restrictive factor for the regional economic development and the ecological environment protection. Based on the long-term observed data collected from all the hydrological stations during the period from 1956 to 1998, this paper analyzes the precipitation, evaporation, runoff, silt, water quality, water resources, etc. in the watersheds of the mainstream and its tributaries. It also analyzes the interannual change, annual distribution laws and budget of water resources as well as the mult-i year change situation of the inflow volume of Ulungur Lake. The analyzed results can provide the scientific basis for the development of agriclture and animal husbandry, planning and designing of irrigation works, fishing production, environmental protection, etc. in Qinghe, Fuyun and Fuhai counties, Altay Prefecture, Xinjiang.

Key words: Ulungur River watershed, water resources, precipitation, runoff
