Abstract:

Tourism-driven rural revitalization has become a key national strategy. The academic community is actively exploring how to achieve coordinated development between tourism advancement and rural revitalization. Empirical research on the coupling mechanisms between tourism development and rural revitalization will help facilitate their synergistic progress. This has significant implications for achieving comprehensive rural revitalization. The study focuses on Ili region, analyzing the coupling mechanism with the entropy weight method, integrated measurement models, coupling coordination metrics, and geodetector analysis. The comprehensive evaluation examines tourism and rural revitalization in Ili region from 2003 to 2023, as well as their coupled evolution and interaction mechanisms. The results show: (1) Tourism development and rural revitalization are synergistic. (2) Innovation-driven development is the primary contributor to tourism, while effective governance is most important for rural revitalization. (3) The coupling relationship shows a fluctuating upward trend, moving through four stages: Moderate imbalance, near imbalance, barely coordinated, and primary coordination. (4) Tourism resource endowment and transportation infrastructure demonstrate strong explanatory power for synergy, while industrial structure optimization and government macroregulation have relatively weaker effects. While the coupling relationship has progressed from “moderate imbalance” to “primary coordination” type, it has not yet reached a level of strong good coordination. Therefore, various factors should be considered to further coordinate tourism development and rural revitalization. The findings provide a scientific basis for advancing the integration of tourism development and rural revitalization in Ili region.
