Abstract: The assessment of eco-environment quality is a systemic research work, and it is the important basis for the resources development, the social and economic sustainable development planning and the eco-environment protection. The paper starts with several concepts related to eco-environmental quality assessment, then we mention the standards and methods of assessment, and summarize the representative assessment indicator system in China which were put forward by some scholars in the different application aspects of the eco-environment quality assessment. Furthermore, we discuss the relationship among ecosystem services, ecosystem health, sustainable development and eco-environmental quality assessment, From the above analysis, some conclusions are as follows: (1) The change of research scope and size decides that the choice of indexes is not invariable, we must cautiously select the influencing factors. (2) From the related documents, we sum up several indexes that have high frequency application in the research work on assessment of eco-environmental quality. (3) Because of the different index character. the assessment of eco-environmental quality has superior and inferior degree, but it is absolute and relative. (4) Some new viewpoints and techniques, such as dynamic standpoint, the GIS and remote techniques, are used in the research work on the assessment of eco-environmental quality.

Key words: eco-environment quality assessment, indicator system, ecosystem services, ecosystem health, sustainable development
