Abstract: Today the whole series of environmental consequences caused by tourism industry is so serious that tourism environment protection has become the focus of public attention and scholars'research. Some new notions such as sustainable tourism management, ecotourism are advocated intensively by many people. With the Great Development of Western China, the tourism in Xinjiang has got a unprecedented chance. However, Xinjiang is characterized by the fragile ecological environment simultaneously. It is very importment for it to research the negative trend of tourism environment changes.
This paper firstly assess the current situation of the fundamental component parts of tourism environment in Xinjiang's scenic tourist area, such as atmosphere, watery, soil, vegetation, garbage and landscape harmonicity. And it concludes that spoiled prairie, disgusting litter, unbearable lavatories and low harmonious building are the key problems to be solved urgently. And then, the reasons, including imperfect legalsystem, defective tourism manage system, overemphasized short-term economic benefits and lagged environmental education are also expounded one by one. Finally based on all of these, the paper put forward the objective and the countermeasures which must be adopt at present to the tourism environment protection in Xinjiang's scenic tourist area.
