Abstract: The ratios of grain-cotton per unit area yield are 3.75, 7. 24, 6.35, and 5.07 in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, Shandong and Anhui provinces and the whole country respectively during the period from 1992 to 1998, and the ratio in Xinjiang is 3.5 and 2.6 lower than that in Shandong and Anhui respectively. The reagressive analysis shows that the per unit area yield of cotton in next year will be increased for 7. 8% whenever the ratio of grain-cotton per unit area yield is reduced for 1.Based on the per capita income of the farmers, transporting cost of cotton, WTO, and other factors, it is considered that the comparing superiority of cotton growing in Xinjiang may not be reversed before the total yield of ginned cotton is reached to 1.75×106 t.
