Abstract: China is a resource-rich country and there are rich resources in many provinces. However, the resource-based provinces relay on resource excessively to develop the economy. It will lead to a single economic structure and will not achieve sustainable development.Therefore,resource-based provinces should develop industrial diversification in a timely manner and form a pattern of common development of multiple industries. As a typical resource-based province, the economy of Shanxi Province is particularly dependent on resource-based industries. This paper takes Shanxi Province as an example to comprehensively study the diversified development of its industry.Firstly, according to the characteristics of resource-based economic development in Shanxi Province,42 industries were merged into 22 industry categories. And then through the input-output table and extension table from 2002 to 2015 we analyze the industrial development of Shanxi Province comprehensively. It is found that the total input ratio in the coal resources industry is significantly higher than that in other industries in the past few years, and the second highest is the non-coal resources industry. From a perspective of the intermediate input ratio, the construction industry is maintained at a high level, followed by the non-coal resources industry; Secondly, according to the diffusion induction coefficient and the diffusion influence coefficient,we track the changing laws of key industries in economic development. In 2002,the diffusion influence coefficient of the coal resources industry and the consumer goods industry was not obvious.By 2015,the coal resource industry,non-coal resources industry, consumer goods industry, equipment manufacturing industry and material chemical industry had become key sectors of industrial development in Shanxi Province. The financial industry and the transportation industry have changed from leading industries to non-leading industries. And the changes in other industries were not very obvious.Thirdly, the service industry was merged into 13 industries. And then we take entropy index to measure the degree of industrial diversification in Shanxi Province from 2002 to 2015.The results showed that the industrial structure of Shanxi Province had gradually concentrated over time and the industry had become more specialized; finally, using social network analysis, according to a certain mathematical processing and constraints we made the Shanxi Province input-output correlation diagram to visually examine the associations and industrial developments of various industries in Shanxi Province. It was found that two important industrial collections were formed in 2015.One is dominated by coal resources industry and supported by non-coal resources industry, equipment manufacturing industry, transportation industry, and finance industry, the other is dominated by construction industry and supported by non-coal resources industry, materials and chemical industries.Since more than ten years of development, the industrial development of Shanxi Province had become more concentrated and had formed a collection of industries, which led by the coal industry and the construction industry. The industrial development was more concentrated on the collection of these two industries.
