Abstract:

To clarify the mechanisms and contributions of climate change and human activities to vegetation net primary productivity (NPP) in the Liupan Mountains area, this study analyzed MODIS NPP and meteorological data from 2001 to 2024 using trend analysis, partial correlation analysis, and difference comparison methods to examine the spatiotemporal evolution of potential NPP (PNPP), actual NPP (ANPP), and human-induced NPP (HNPP). The effects of climate change and human activities on NPP were quantitatively evaluated. The results revealed the following: (1) PNPP and ANPP gradually decreased from south to north, with PNPP exhibiting an increasing trend. ANPP increased significantly, with a growth rate of 6.01 g C·m−2·a−1, and areas with significant increases accounted for 86.17% of the total region. Approximately 15.27% of the total area is expected to increase in the future. HNPP remained positive, with low values in the north and south and higher values in the middle, displaying a fluctuating downward trend. (2) ANPP was mainly positively correlated with precipitation, average air temperature, and average wind speed, while showing predominantly negative correlations with relative humidity and solar radiation. The partial correlation between ANPP and population density was mostly negative, although areas showing a positive correlation between ANPP and land-use intensity exceeded those with negative correlations. (3) The vegetation improvement area encompassed 97.23% of the region, with climate-change-dominated and human-activity-dominated zones accounting for 16.45% and 12.02%, respectively. Notably, 71.53% of the area was influenced by both factors. The relative contributions of climate change and human activities were generally comparable in vegetation improvement areas, whereas human activities primarily drove vegetation degradation in the Liupan Mountains area. This study provides a scientific basis for effectively addressing climate change and developing strategies for ecological protection and restoration in the Liupan Mountains area.
