Abstract: Different natural, historical and socio-economic conditions give rise to differences in the spatial structure of regional tourism systems. With the help of tourism economics model, this paper discussed the intensity of regional tourism interrelation and the subordination degrees of tourism economy among regions. Based on calculation of linkage intensity and direction between regions,it is shown that linkages within the tourism economy are extremely unevenly distributed and are mainly concentrated in Urumqi City and Changji Prefecture, and these two regions are included in the strong contact area, the others belong to the general contact area. Fractal thought is used to explore the spatial structure of a regional tourism system to promote efficient use and harmonious development of human-land relationships. This study shows that there is a relationship between the strength of regional tourism interrelation and the fractal structure of scenic spots. The capacity dimension and information dimension in the strong contact areas are all smaller than the same dimensions in the general contract areas. This suggests that differences in the spatial distribution of scenic spots gradually increase as the extent of tourism linkages weakens. It can also be seen that the spatial distribution of scenic spots is more even in the region with high linkages than that in the area with lower connectivity. There are some conclusions can be drawn from these analyses:(1) Linkages among regions are fundamental to tourism. However, connectivity between regions varies greatly. Strengthening linkages will require greater regional cooperation. (2) The intensity of interaction between regions can be measured and used as an indicator of the economic structure of tourism regions. (3) The spatial distribution of scenic spots has a fractal property with respect to linkages, and the capacity and information dimensions increase with the decline of correlation degrees. (4) The distribution of scenic spots is relatively even in the region with strong connectivity and uneven in the region of lower connectivity where a few small clusters of scenic spots exist.
