Abstract: The southern slope region of the Tianshan Mt.Tomur mainly include Aksu prefecture and Alaer city，where the abundant and distinctive tourism resources are important support for "Xinjiang Tianshan" World Natural Heritage，while the overall mode to co-ordinate Tianshan tourism elements as well as the specific tourism development path are lacked. In accordance with national standards" Classification，Investigation and Evaluation of Tourism Resource " （GB/T18972-2003），this paper investigated the tourism resources in the southern slope region of the Tianshan Mt.Tomur with field survey method and the Delphi method，obtained the classification and evaluation datas of its tourism resources. Meanwhile，this paper analyzed the industry foundation and problems of this region’s tourism based on statistical bulletin of economic and social development and yearbook of Aksu prefecture and Alaer city. And then it surveyed the market of self-driving travel in Xinjiang with questionnaire and interview. The results show that：①The southern slope region of the Tianshan Mt.Tomur has excellent resource endowments，it should be  running on the theme of eco-tourism. ②The resource bases of this area are suitable for National Park and special outdoor leisure activities. ③The level of the region’s tourism development is low，industry elements of tourism are imperfect，and the fragile ecological environment will limit its development. ④The self-driving travel is the ideal choice of activities in the area. ⑤The National Park mode should be implemented in developing tourism within this area. In addition，based on the resource foundation，tourism industry foundation and the current self-driving travel development in Xinjiang，the paper considers that this region should establish the strategic basis of the construction of ecological civilization，organize the products groups for outdoor self-driving travel within which are outdoor recreation，natural novelty-seeking and aesthetic experience by the “Tianshan Mt.Tomur National Park” model，deploy service industry system for self-driving travel，explore the self-driving travel and outdoor tourist market，employ innovative mechanisms and institution of tourism development，conduct community participation in tourism development，utilize the Tianshan Mountain natural ecological tourism products to capture the tourism market in China.
