Abstract: The statistics of 1985 showed:Xinjiang has 17,670,000 mu of natural forest, 7,640,000 mu of thinned forest land,5,140,000 mu of shrub land(Exclusive of thinned shrubbery),and 2.3 ×108 m3 of total growing stock. The cover-rate reaches 1.12% (inclusive of the plain artificial forest)being 28th in the Provinces of China, placed as a rare forest Province Region. The article analysed the existing problems of Xinjiang forestry: the mature forest resource is decreasing, the detachable resource is lacking; the young growth resource is poor, the resource structure loses balance;diversified-leaved poplar forest, river valley forest and desert shrubbery resource is diminishing by large scale, the local ecological environment deterioration appears;the forest farm's management is monotonous with extensive admini stration, short of investment input. The paper proposed also the concrete scope and measure of developing Xinjiang forestry.
