Plant Communities Excluded from the Book “The Vegetation and its Utilization in Xinjiang”

Abstract: In the late1950s the Xinjiang Synthetical Investigation Team of the Chinese Academy of Sciences carried out a large scale field investigation on the natural resources in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in order to find out the distribution of natural resources and the disposition of productive forces and use them rationally.“The Vegetation and Its Utilization in Xinjiang”,which was published in1978,was the result of the investigation and has been considered as one of the important references in the mid-term and long-term planning for the development of agriculture and animal husbandry in the region.The book,however,did not include the following plant communities due to the then limited conditions of investigation and its earlier publication.They are the communities of Betula rotunaif lia, A mygdalus ledebouriana, A mmodendron argnteum, Euphorbia soongarica,Myricaria p rostrata,T amarix taklamakanensis,Elaeagus oxycarpa,Hippophae rhamnoides, Psathyrostachys juncea,Carex moocroftii ,respectively.
