Abstract: Based on the former work and the accumulated information and taking the Linze region in the Hexi corridor, Gansu Province, as an example, the productive potentiality of soil is studied by using AHP methods in this paper. Soil resource, physiognomy conditions and land use are chosen as evaluated units, which include many factors, such as organics in soil, soil character, pH value, slope, height above sea level, land use actuality. The evaluation model on productive potentiality and suitability of Linze zone in the Hexi corridor is founded based on above evaluated units and factors, the evaluated results are obtained as follows: (1) The area of high grade land suitable for farming is 4025.44 hm2, which makes up 10.56 percent of the total area of studied region. (2) The area of middle grade land suitable for farming is 8270.65 hm2, which makes up 19. 70 percent of the total area of studied region. (3) The land area of low grade land suitable for farming is 1176.41 hm2, which makes up 8. 41 percent of the total area of studied region. (4) The area of land unsuitable for farming is 24520.54 hm2, which makes up is 61.33 percent of the total area of studied region.
