Abstract:

Rapid urbanization is a crucial factor in urban ecological security and resilience in the Yellow River Basin of China. This study employed a coupled coordination model to analyze the spatiotemporal evolution of the coordinated development between urbanization and urban ecological resilience in the middle reaches of the Yellow River from 2010 to 2022, explore the effects of each subsystem on the overall degree of coordination, and provide reference data for research on urban ecological security in the Yellow River Basin. The results indicate that: (1) Over the past 12 a, the urbanization level of cities in the middle reaches of the Yellow River generally exhibited a distinct “core-edge” spatial disparity with an upward trend over time; the ecological resilience level displayed an inverse “core-periphery” characteristic and had a gradual downward trend. (2) The degree of coordination between urbanization and urban ecological resilience in the middle reaches of the Yellow River showed a declining trend from “basic coordination” to “moderate imbalance”, while the spatial distribution pattern gradually shifted from a “core-edge” to a “clustered contiguous” structure. (3) The population, economic, and spatial subsystems of urbanization in the middle reaches of the Yellow River and the defense, adaptability, and recovery subsystems of ecological resilience collectively hindered the overall coupling coordination. Over time, the contributions of the population, spatial, defense, and recovery subsystems significantly weakened, whereas the influence of the adaptability subsystem gradually increased. (4) Due to such factors as the ecological baseline conditions, regional advantages, and administrative hierarchy, the level of coordination between urbanization and urban ecological resilience in the middle reaches of the Yellow River exhibits pronounced unevenness.
