Tibetan Rose-finch Carpodacus roborowskii, a new record of bird from Xinjiang

Abstract: On May 23rd, 2015, two special birds were found at Qiuerkaka Checkpoint of Kunlun-Altun Mountain National Nature Reserve(36°39'N, 90°33'E, with an elevation of 4 900 m) during the second national survey of terrestrial wildlife resources. Through careful observation and identification of pictures, they are Tibetan Rosefinches Carpodacus roborowskii(male and female), the new record of the avian for Xinjiang. The rose-finch is a bird in the finch family such as Fringillidae. It is a very rare and special species in the Tibet Plateau. It is sometimes placed in the monotypic genus Kozlowia. Its natural habitat is mountain tundra, this is a blank area of the study on the birds, the distance is only 340 km to Burhan Buda(the place of origin in Kunlun Mts.). More than 20 species these new records in recent years have been found by birdwatchers in the south of Xinjiang. Tibetan Rose-finch is endemic to the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau of China. The research history, geographical distribution, character, habitat, ecology habit, food, breeding, species classify and population status of the Tibetan Rose-finch were discussed.
