Abstract: In recent years, the study of urban agricultural multi-functionality mainly focused on the definition, comprehensive evaluation, development mode and spatial distribution. However, the research of coordinated development among the urban agricultural multi-functionality is few. Coordinated development of urban agricultural multi-functionality essentially reflects the structure of the agricultural sectors, and it' s significant in the promotion of the structure adjustment and sustainable development of urban agriculture. This paper took Xi'an metropolitan zone, Shaanxi Province, China, as the study area, aiming at the analysis of urban agricultural multi-functionality from perspective of coordinated development, and constructing an evolution indexes system. The system consisted of production function, economic function, social function and ecological function. According to the data of agriculture and rural development in the period of 2000 to 2013 in Xi'an metropolitan, and by using comprehensive evaluation method and coupling coordinative degree model, the dynamic change and spatial difference of the coordinated development of urban agricultural multi-functionality were analyzed from the perspective of time and space. Results showed as follows:(1)In general the production function, economic function and social function of urban agriculture in Xi'an metropolitan zone tended to rise, however, the ecological function index tended to drop. The strong-weak relationship of the multiple function of agriculture showed shifting, and the development of highly efficient agriculture was at the cost of ecological function.(2)The development of urban agriculture is in order to give full play to the production and economic function, and the level of social function lagged behind, and the depressed ecological index has became the bottleneck to restrict coupling coordinative degree increase rapidly. The multi-functional coupling coordination degree in 2013 when compared with 2000 increased only 0.1786.(3)Urban agricultural multi-functional coupling coordination degree of each town and township showed a core-periphery distribution pattern which gradually increased from center zone and edge-zone to suburb. It showed that the urbanization area of high level could improve the coupling coordination degree of suburbs, but against the local zone.(4)The coupling coordination degree of each region was lower than 0.4452. It explained that the development of urban agricultural multi-functionality was imbalanced. So it should make a necessary adjustment of agricultural strategy on the basis of the agricultural natural resources conditions in each region and form a balanced development between the various departments of agriculture to achieve the coordinated development of urban agricultural multi-functionality.

Key words: urban agricultural multi-functionality, coupling coordinative degree, Xi' an metropolitan zone
