Abstract: Karakoram Mountain is located in the northwestern part of Qin-Zhang plateau. The Quaternary tectonic movement was rather strong, leading the formation and the development of the Quaternary geological environment. In the Quaternary period the action of faults had been very active. The alluvial-drifted material of Cainozoic era and the moraine material of Pleistocene were faulted. There were late Pleistocene vocanic products along the Kangxiwa Fault. The direction of river was changed abruptly in about 300° in many places. The mountains were risen in a large scale. There are 4 terraces from Kangxiwa to Saitula in Karakashi River valley, and 7-8 terraces below the Mazar of the Yarkand River. The Quaternary tectonic movement of northern slope of Karakoram Mountain has the in heritic characteristics, new emerging, intermittencing and differencing. Their intensities and forms were varied in different place and period. The direction of the tectonic movement in the area was diminated mainly horizontal movement. The characteristics of vertical movemnt that formed the landforms were just derived from horizontal movemnt of the crust.
