Populus Pruinosa in the Lower Reaches Area of Hotan River

Abstract: The Hotan River, which traverses Tak1imagan Desert, has plenty of water. There are rich sunlight and heat resource and 1ight salt in soils at the watershed. In the flood area where is good growth, Populus Pruinosa is the dominant vegetation and the standing forest is of the characteristics of great proportion of younth growth and sub-sprout forest. The standing forest accumulation is low and forest species are less. The forest resources, are seriously damaged because of the bad management for a long time.
Now, protecting the forcst and maintaining the unimpeded “green cor-ridor” should be the important tasks, and comprehensive methods should be adapted for building the Hotan River watershed as production base of forest and animal husbandry.
