Abstract: The Karakorum and West Kunlun Mts.locate in northwestern part of the Qing Zang Plateau, where neotectonic movement is very active and strong since Late Cenozoic era.It is the landform reflection of neotectonics that both the steep stepped alpine landform is formed by fault block uplift along old abyssal faulting in Quaternary period and the low mountain and hill are consisted of the folded Meso-cenozoic group. And neotectonic movement is also demonstrated by lots of volcanism, seism, therme and defor mation of earth's crust in this region.
The Karakorum and West Kunlun Mts.were risen about 4,000-4,500 m, with three episodes crustal movement since the end of Pliocene epoch. Evidently,it is the distributing feature of time and space of neotecto-nics that the speed of the late stage is faster than early and the intensity of southern part is greater than northern. The general trend of river flow in this region indicates the principal pressure direction of neotectonics stress field is about S-N.
