Abstract:

Effective management and monitoring of soil salinization depend on the accurate acquisition of soil salinity and organic matter information. This study investigates two experimental farmlands in Jiashi County, Kashgar Prefecture, Xinjiang, utilizing ground-based hyperspectral reflectance data and laboratory measurements as data sources. The raw hyperspectral reflectance data underwent differential transformation from 0.00th to 2.00nd order with a step size of 0.25. The optimal transformation order was determined based on its correlation with soil electrical conductivity (EC) and soil organic matter (SOM). Sensitive bands were screened using the sequential projection algorithm, and spectral indices were constructed from these bands. Recursive feature elimination was used to refine the spectral indices. Models such as random forest, support vector regression, lightweight gradient boosting machine, and Stacking were established to estimate soil EC and SOM. Results indicate the following: (1) Differentiating raw hyperspectral reflectance significantly enhances the correlation between spectral reflectance data and EC/SOM, with the optimal fractional order consistently occurring at 0.75. This method achieves maximum correlation increases of 0.041 and 0.091 compared to the raw spectra. (2) The Stacking model demonstrated the best performance for both EC and SOM inversion, achieving determination coefficients of 0.708 and 0.680, respectively. It exhibited the lowest error and highest accuracy, surpassing the best single model by approximately 8.4% and 5.4%, making it a robust solution for remote sensing inversion of EC and SOM in the study area. (3) Soil EC and SOM show a negative correlation in spatial distribution, with lower organic matter content in high-salinity areas. The spatial patterns of these two variables may be influenced by multiple factors.
