Abstract: Jinghe-Yining railway connecting Yili and Bortala Prefectures at west of Xinjiang is beingdesigned. In order to make the railway free frorn or suffer as little as possible destruction of theavalanches along the railway, the paper has put up the prinary analysis to the forming condi-tions and features of the avalanches along the Jinghe-Yining railway. The Jinghe-Yining rail-way wander across the northwestern branch of the Tianshan Mountains——the KokirginMountains. The avalanches mainly distribute on the southern slope of the Kokirgin Mountains. There are scarcely the avalanches formed on the northern slope. Furthermore in the southern slope, the avalanches mainly are distributed in the areas from Buliekai River to the ridge of the Kokirgin Mountains. All of the types of avalanches can be found in the areas and they distributevery widely. Of all the avalanches, the number of the groove-avalanches, the groove-slope-avalanches and slope-avalanches respectively is accounted for one-third of all. Among them, thedegree of destruction of the groove-avalanches to the railway and the establishment is the great-est; the slope-avalanches happen very continually and block the railway easily; the degree of de-struction of the groove-slope-avalanches is medium to the others. According to the features ofall the avalanches in the areas, the paper bring forward the suggestions for selecting the track ofrailway and the principle of selecting the track of railway.
